Safety must not be left to chance
On Monday, 28 October 2019, Prysmian Group Romania participated in the PRIA Fire Safety of Buildings conference where it brought to the public's attention the importance of using CPR rated cables in construction.
At the conference, Prysmian focused on CPR classification standards for building materials (especially electrical cables) and how they can help save lives in the event of a fire.
Fire statistics tell us that people spend 90% of their time in buildings, and 90% of fires occur there.
Every year, 4000 people die in fires in Europe and 44% of deaths are caused by inhaling toxic gases and smoke. Problems in electrical installations are the second biggest cause of fires, the first being chimney problems.
Across the European Union, 5000 fires occur every day, and the average room is engulfed in flames for three minutes.
In Romania, about 200 people die every year and another 600 are hospitalized because of fire.
The importance of implementing and complying with standardized safety rules
The safety of buildings and people in the event of fire has become quite an important topic at Europthe ean level. The Construction Product Regulation (CPR) standardisation rules comprise seven classification classes: Fca, Eca, Dca, Cca, B2ca, B1ca and Aca.
Applicability of CPR classes
B-certified cables have high fire performance and are used where the risk of fire is high or very high, for example: emergency exits, densely populated locations, underground stations, airports or tunnels.
C-certified cables are used where the fire risk is moderate or high, e.g. offices, hotels or schools.
AFUMEX
Last but not least, at the conference we highlighted the features and fire performance of LS0H cables and talked about our AFUMEX product range:
- Limits the spread of fire;
- The L0SH blanket is made of a special compound - Prysmian technology;
- Very low emissions of smoke and toxic gases;
- Halogen free;
- Environmentally sustainable cable composition
