Prysmian Group, a global leader in the energy and telecommunications cabling systems industry, offered a view on future energy and telecommunications solutions during the third edition of the Rising Cities. Smart Future Conference organized by Business Review on 18 November 2020 in Bucharest, Romania. The conference brought together representatives from businesses, local authorities, and regulators to discuss the key drivers of innovation in tomorrow's cities and the role of the circular economy in making urban areas more efficient in the long term.

Cristian Gheorghe, Sales Director Telecommunications Solutions, Danube region, Prysmian Group, explained how hybrid cables and intelligent monitoring tools can play a key role in this modernization process, bringing together power grids and telecommunications networks in an integrated infrastructure, shaping the cities of tomorrow. When he discussed the opportunities of network convergence, a concept introduced by Prysmian in Romania a few years ago, Mr. Gheorghe presented three key studies being implemented in Romania, namely smart cities – hybrid to the pole, smart houses – hybrid to the home and smart factories – hybrid to the machine, which show the advantages of integrated cable solutions, developed by Prysmian Group in Slatina, Romania, for energy and telecommunications operators, as well as for their customers.

In conclusion, Mr. Gheorghe emphasized the need for synergies between telecommunications and energy and the positive impact it brings on innovation, the development of smart solutions and applications, and supporting cross-sectoral cooperation between different actors, including operators, ministries, regulatory and other national authorities.
