Medical Caravan - a project for the community
The Medical Caravan is a project of the Pro-Voluntariat Association, supported by Prysmian Romania, which brings essential medical services to rural areas where access to care is often difficult. The project stands out due to the involvement of volunteer doctors, the use of modern equipment, and the civic spirit dedicated to the community.
The Medical Caravan started its activities in July but had its official launch on Tuesday, September 3rd, during an event held at Prysmian’s headquarters in Slatina. The event was attended by Prysmian’s Chief Operating Officer, Daniela Burcă, representatives of the association, the Vice President of Olt County Council, Ionuţ Ivan, and the mayor of Cârlogani commune, Ionel Văduva.
“We want to bring back to the community projects that will raise the standard of living, the level of culture, and the level of education. We want to be an integral part of the community and to be seen not just as cable factories, but as a partner that can actually improve the quality of life for the entire community. For this purpose, we have carried out quite a few projects so far.”, stated Daniela Burcă.
The Medical Caravan enjoys the voluntary participation of doctors specialized in pediatrics, speech therapy, dentistry, and psychology, who offer their time to reach the localities that need medical services the most.
“Who are the main characters of this medical caravan? Well, first of all, it couldn’t have started without the full financial support of Prysmian. The people at Prysmian understood the needs of our community and acted accordingly. Similarly, the caravan cannot operate without the doctors who voluntarily come in their free time to consult children. It couldn’t take place without the family doctors who helped us with the authorized sanitary space. Equally important characters are the members of the local community. Why? Because without the authority of the mayors, especially, it is very difficult to succeed. The mayor has this authority and is a well-known person in the respective locality and manages to know the history of each disadvantaged family and how they can be helped.”, stated Kalman Szocs, representative of the Pro-Voluntariat Association.
Prysmian facilitated the purchase and equipping of the transport vehicle for this medical caravan, which has already visited three localities in Olt County: Dobrun, Cârlogani, and Tia Mare, and has consulted over 100 children.
The medical caravan has useful medical equipment for diagnosing children: EKG, surgical aspirator, scale, sanitary materials, and a children’s stethoscope.
“Health knows no budget limits, no matter how much we invest. There is always room for improvement. Through initiatives like today’s, Prysmian shows its commitment to health and demonstrates that it understands the importance of giving back to the community that has enabled its success” stated Ionuţ Ivan.
“I am happy and feel like one of the luckiest mayors in rural areas because I have had the support of these big-hearted people. In another project, I discovered the situation of children in rural areas, of families with a very high degree of poverty. Many times, I left with tears in my eyes, feeling sad. Now, I am very excited to see this project because, indeed, without health, we cannot raise healthy children in rural areas, nor have strong people who represent the future. To be honest, I have recommended this project to other mayor colleagues, telling them that behind this project are big-hearted people who want to make a difference. There are sponsors, and I thank those from Prysmian and hope they continue to support us. We sincerely thank everyone involved in this project and, God willing, we will find a way for this project to continue and develop much more”, stated Ionel Văduva, the mayor of Cârlogani commune.
The initiative will continue, including throughout next year.
